I have a hypothesis: add fog to anything, and it automatically looks ten times better. As evidence for this hypothesis, I submit this photoset by Stephan M (whoever that is, I envy his supply of fog).

I concur with this hypothesis… and with the envy. Damn.

I know you’re aching for an opportunity to slip the word floccinaucinihilipilification into a conversation, but before you can do that, you must learn how to pronounce it. Wikipedia’s got you covered!

Clear your throat, polish your listening tubes and click click to play to play.

(Footnote: Of all the audio posts I’ve made, this is both the shortest and the least metal.)

Nakagin Capsule Tower, shortly after its construction in 1972.

The tower’s stunning design may strike passersby as something straight out of a science-fiction movie, but it stands as a unique architectural beacon amongst the common apartment high-rises and office buildings of Ginza. Designed by the late Japanese architect Kurokawa Kisho, the 14-story tower is composed of 140 individual capsules that function as apartments and business offices. The tower has also served as a prototype of sorts for uniquely Japanese urban accommodations, such as business and capsule hotels.

But the future of the tower is uncertain. For various reasons, including maintenance concerns and a lack of local support for preservation, the building will be demolished in less than two years unless a substantial preservation plan can be formed and accepted. The possible demolition would be a disappointing loss for Japanese architecture, as few of Kurokawa’s Metabolist buildings remain in Japan.

I love a good thought experiment before bedtime. Via dailymeh:

An eccentric billionaire offers you a million dollars if at midnight tonight you intend to drink a vial of poison tomorrow afternoon. You are free to change your mind after midnight and not take the poison; you will receive the money whether you take the poison or not, so long as you at midnight sincerely intend to take it. Knowing all this, can you get the money, yet also avoid the poison?

Meanwhile, I’m left with this conclusion: if you’re not encrypting your data, you should be. And if you are encrypting your data, you need to figure this stuff out, before you get hit by a bus and doom your digital life to crypto oblivion.

I may have finally reached my limit. … RoboGeisha is the story of a robot geisha who fights ninjas, other robot geishas and robot geisha ninjas. The trailer consists of a long list of various robot geisha attributes, read aloud by a man with a ball-gag in his mouth. We learn that RoboGeisha has swords in her arms and that she can shoot rockets. She can also transform into a car, which is especially helpful when fighting assassins with mini-guns instead of breasts.
